Ferrari’s Endless Failures Are Destroying One of F1’s Most Gifted Drivers

Misfortune is the headline of any failing F1 story, and the story of Ferrari star Charles Leclerc is no different. In seven years with one of the sport’s most prestigious names, the driver has only paled in comparison to the likes of Mercedes, Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Red Bull, among others.

One can pull up an endless list of statistical comparisons to highlight just exactly how bad his run at Ferrari has been. One of the latest comparisons on X adds more color to the depression that Leclerc has found himself in.

Ferrari Driver Charles Leclerc’s Failures Highlighted in Comparison To Max Verstappen

Leclerc hasn’t really competed for an F1 title yet in his career. Even in 2022, when he finished second behind Verstappen, he fell well short in the title race by 146 points.

Touted by many as one of the most talented drivers on the grid, his lack of championship success doesn’t bode well for his F1 legacy, and a recent stat highlighted by Kubicami on X only adds to that notion.

“When the 2019 season ended, Max had 8 wins to Leclerc’s 2 (should’ve been at least 5 for charles),” the account tweeted. “6 years later Max has now won his 70th race, and Leclerc is unfortunately stuck at 8… If that doesn’t tell you how badly Ferrari has ruined Leclerc’s career, I don’t know what will.”

Red Bull has evidently done a far better job with Verstappen than Ferrari has done with Leclerc. With four world titles already in the bag, the Dutchman is on course to become the greatest driver to ever step into a Formula 1 car.

Sitting with 232 races under his belt at the age of 28, he has 70 race wins, after it took him only 24 Grand Prix to bag his first in 2016. He also claimed pole, fastest lap, and the win, all in one race, 14 times over his career.

Leclerc, meanwhile, has been scraping away with the leftovers in a Ferrari that hasn’t won a world title in 17 years. In seven years, the Prancing Horse has powered the Monegasque to 27 poles and only eight wins. He only has two hat-tricks to Verstappen’s 14.

How much longer Leclerc is prepared to stay at Ferrari remains to be seen. After a strong one-year stint at Sauber in 2018, which led many to believe that he would one day be a World Champion at a bigger team, his efforts at Ferrari have yet to bear championship fruit.
