Graham Smyth shares Harry Wilson update amid rumours Leeds could sign him in January

The chances of Leeds United signing Harry Wilson in January have been explained as attention begins to turn towards the next transfer window.

Daniel Farke will be hoping that he has the chance to lead Leeds into the January transfer window after this pressure on his position was partially lifted with a win over Chelsea.

The Leeds United boss made no secret of his frustration in the summer as the Whites failed to add another attacking option, having missed out on a late deal for Fulham’s Harry Wilson.

Wilson continues to be linked with a move to Elland Road, as his contract in West London is set to expire at the end of the season.

Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth has provided the latest view on the likelihood of him moving to Leeds in the January window.

Latest update on Leeds United’s chances of signing Harry Wilson

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth explained why he believes Wilson is unlikely to move to West Yorkshire in January.

According to Smyth, although Wilson is exactly the sort of player that would help add a “bit of magic” to the Leeds attack, he believes he will remain with Leeds’ Premier League rivals for the remainder of the season.

Wilson said: “I also think you still need to think there’ll be games where you need a bit of magic, a bit of creativity, a bit of guile.

“Harry Wilson, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. He’s Fulham’s top goal scorer. I don’t know if you saw the goal he scored from the touchline the other day.

“But he’s putting in great corners, he’s scoring goals. Someone like that, someone of that ilk who has a bit of end product and a bit of creativity.”

Harry Wilson may not be the right answer for Leeds United

Wilson appeared to be a leading option for Farke in the summer when Leeds were in the market to bring in another option to play on the right wing.

However, since then, the picture has changed at Elland Road, after Daniel Farke elected to switch to a 5-3-2 formation.

Although Wilson can operate across the front line, Leeds are not currently using a right winger, and Willy Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson and the injured Dan James all currently struggling to force their way into the Leeds team.

Regardless of Fulham’s stance on retaining Wilson, the change in system at Elland Road may mean that Wilson is no longer the right option to strengthen the Leeds squad.
