Mitchell Lawrie claims 2025 WDF Open World Championship

Mitchell Lawrie triumphed in the first title decider of finals day at the 2025 WDF World Championships, claiming the Open Youth trophy.

The 15-year-old has been the star of Lakeside this week and started strongly, sweeping the first set 3-0.

He doubled his lead by taking a high-quality second set, defying outs of 113 and 132 from Preis with finishes of 68 and 130 of his own.

Preis, who was playing in his last WDF Youth game before he ages out, halved the deficit by taking the third set. He then had a chance to level the match by taking set four but wired the double, Lawrie punishing him with a 120 finish and a 15-darter.

The German finished the match with 4 180s and did take set five but his comeback ended there, Lawrie winning the sixth set 3-1 to wrap up a victory.

It was an 89.35 average in the end for ‘Wee Sox’ who became the first Scottish Youth World Champion in Lakeside history after previous final defeats for Nathan Girvan.
