Merseyside will once again take centre stage on the silver screen in a brand new film being released this week. Liverpool has established itself as a hub for production and filming over recent years and we are well accustomed to the sight of camera crews across the city.
Hollywood productions such as The Batman have made Merseyside their home over recent years while the region is also experiencing a boom in Liverpool-based shows with This City Is Ours a smash hit success in 2025. Viewers will have the chance to see Liverpool on the big screen once again this week as Fackham Hall arrives in UK cinemas on December 12 marking the screenwriting debut of comedy star Jimmy Carr.
The film boasts an 86% rating on RottenTomatoes with a synopsis which reads: “A new porter forms an odd bond with the youngest daughter of a well-known UK family. As the Davenport family, headed by Lord and Lady Davenport, deals with the epic disaster of the wedding of their eldest daughter to her caddish cousin.”
The film boasts a star-studded cast including Damian Lewis, Anna Maxwell Martin and Tom Felton. The period comedy has been described as a humorous version of Downton Abbey and took advantage of the splendour of the Liverpool City Region during filming last year.
VisitLiverpool has provided a round up of some of the locations visible in this brand new production:

Knowsley Hall
According to VisitLiverpool “Knowsley Hall stars as Fackham Hall, the lavish country estate at the heart of the film’s chaos and comedy. With its grand architecture and sweeping grounds, this historic home, seat of the Earls of Derby for over 600 years, sets the perfect stage for the aristocratic Davenport family”.
The hall, which has also been used in The Ipcress File TV show, is the backdrop to extravagant wedding scenes and farcical mishaps in the upcoming Fackham Hall.
Cunard Building/ Water Street entrance
It’s perhaps not a surprise that the elegant waterfront building has been used to provide a grand and atmospheric setting for some scenes in the film. VisitLiverpool said: “The production transformed the surrounding area, including Water Street, with props like vintage vehicles and rain towers to create dramatic outdoor scenes.
“The Cunard Building’s classical architecture and civic grandeur made it an ideal backdrop for the film’s blend of aristocratic parody and visual spectacle.”
Thornton Hough
Thornton Hough proved to be an important filming location for Fackham Hall with many places in the village used for production. Places visible in the upcoming production include:
- St George’s United Reformed Church
- The Folds
- Thornton Hough Village Club and Bar
Other locations visible in Fackham Hall include Aloft Hotel on North John Street and Hamilton Square in Birkenhead. VisitLiverpool said: “The production team used the square’s distinctive facades and open space to stage outdoor scenes, complete with vintage props and costumes, enhancing the film’s parody of classic British dramas like Downton Abbey.”
Fackham Hall is released in UK cinemas on December 12
