Magic’s Franz Wagner exits vs. Knicks with leg injury

Just after one of the Orlando Magic’s star wings returned, the other went down with what appeared to be a significant injury.

Ariel Hukporti fouled Wagner as he leapt for a lob-pass on the fast break and the Magic’s leading scorer remained on the floor for several minutes after, grabbing at his knee. He was helped off the court and appeared to not put any weight on his left leg.

Wagner, 24, is averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists this season.

Paolo Banchero had only just returned from a groin strain – sustained against the Knicks on Nov. 12 – that held him out for 10 games.

The Magic acquired Desmond Bane in a blockbuster trade with the Memphis Grizzlies in the off-season, aiming to compete in a wide-open East. Despite their injury woes, they’ve still managed a 14-9 record, good for fifth place in the conference.
