Viral Rumor Indicates Lamar Jackson, Ravens Players ‘Have Wanted John Harbaugh Fired for Years’

Trouble is brewing for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Despite sitting at 6-6 and tied for first in the AFC North, the team’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. Their offense has been inconsistent, posting a lackluster impact grade of 69.5, according to PFSN’s offensive impact grades. To make matters worse, Jackson has already missed three games with a hamstring injury and has sat out numerous practices since returning, citing ankle, knee, and toe ailments.

However, even with the injuries and on-field struggles, possible behind-the-scenes drama could make those issues look minuscule in comparison.

What Is Happening Behind Closed Doors in Baltimore Ravens?

According to a since-deleted Reddit post from the Ravens subreddit that was later shared on X, Jackson and other teammates have wanted head coach John Harbaugh fired for years.

While rumors like this surface often, this one carries more weight than usual. An identity check was reportedly performed by channel moderators, who confirmed the original poster was affiliated with a player on the team.

As the head coach of one of the NFL’s most consistent franchises over the last decade, this report certainly raises eyebrows. Harbaugh has held his position since 2008, making him one of the longest-tenured active head coaches in the league. But if the locker room is truly fractured, his longevity might not save him.

Harbaugh’s resume is undeniably impressive. He led the Ravens to a Super Bowl XLVII victory against the San Francisco 49ers, when defensive Hall of Famers Ray Lewis and Ed Reed anchored the team. Thanks to that dominant defense and a strong culture, Harbaugh has suffered only two losing seasons during his entire tenure.

His success continued even after the franchise pivoted from Joe Flacco to Jackson midway through the 2018 campaign. Jackson went on to win MVP in 2019 after leading the team to a 14-2 record, and Harbaugh secured NFL Coach of the Year honors that same season.

However, the postseason results haven’t matched the regular-season hype. Since Jackson became the full-time starter in 2019, the Ravens have endured two Divisional Round exits between 2019 and 2020, lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 AFC Championship, and were recently eliminated in the 2024 Divisional Round after a tough loss against the Buffalo Bills.

While Baltimore has boasted Super Bowl-level talent every year, Harbaugh hasn’t been able to replicate his 2012 championship run. With patience perhaps running thin in Baltimore, he likely needs to not only make the playoffs but also go on a deep run to keep his job.
