Wild temperature swings this week begin Sunday and a chance for snow later in the week.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Today was our second consecutive day with an average high temperature. We managed to reach 44° without any afternoon sunshine. The past two days lowered our ranking to 16th for the coldest start to December.

3 Things to Know(KCTV5)

The southerly winds responsible for today’s seasonal weather hang around this evening and early overnight. Throw in a blanket of clouds, and you have temperatures remaining above freezing tonight until around 5 am Sunday. The mild temperatures and humid air create a hazy sky with isolated areas of fog through this same time.

Looking ahead(KCTV5)

After a couple of milder days, a sharp cold front sweeps across Kansas City late tonight. You will know when it’s fully here. Gusty winds from the northwest will signal when the coldest air invades, around 8 am. These winds sweep away any haze and humidity while the clouds remain. Temperatures hover in the upper 20s all day. You will want to prepare for the feel-like conditions. When heading outside, at any time tomorrow, dress for wind chills from 10° to 15°. This includes tailgating for the Chiefs game.

Sunday Planner(KCTV5)

Once the Chiefs game begins, the breezes taper while temperatures cool into the lower 20s. That’s why our feel like temperatures remain around 10° to 15° the entire day, Sunday. Warm coat, layers, hats, gloves, warm pants, and shoes are a must to stay comfy.

Looking ahead, the rest of our week features wild temperature swings from highs in the 20s to 50s.

Potential Snow Thursday(KCTV5)

A warming trend begins Monday and peaks Tuesday with highs in the 50s! A weak and dry cold front returns us to average on Wednesday. Hot on its heels is our only winter storm this week. Models are close to agreement about when it will impact our day and where we could see snow on Thursday. Right now, the models’ rain/snow line differs by about 50 miles. This puts Kansas City in a choice between rain and a wintry mix from one model and a wintry mix and snow from another. Either way, we could receive a dusting to a half inch.

It’s a bit too early to tell, as models are still working out the details. You know we will keep you updated as the forecast becomes clearer.
