Is snow coming to the Triangle Monday? The odds have changed a bit.

The Triangle could get half an inch of snow in a wintry mix Monday, adding to the region’s holiday mood.
The National Weather Service calls for a 60% chance of rain and snow starting around 1 p.m. Monday, following a rainy morning. The chance of snow picks up after 4 p.m., and winds could gust up to 21 mph in the late afternoon. On Saturday, the NWS pegged the chance for snow at 40%.
Temperatures will hit a high near 43 degrees Monday afternoon and a low of 19 degrees on Monday night, according to the forecast.
The National Weather Service says there is a 60% chance of rain and snow in the Triangle Monday afternoon.
NWS meteorolgist Laura Helock said a cold front will move through the Triangle Monday and bring with it chances of precipitation — including rain and snow. Whether the rain becomes snow in the afternoon will depend on how fast cold air from the mountains comes to central North Carolina.
There will be a chance of snow for about four or five hours, Helock said. But even if the cold air makes its way fast enough, it likely will fall and melt or leave a very light coating.
“If there is snow, it should not be a considerable amount,” Helock said.
Still, roads are likely to be slick and there is a risk for black ice on roads Tuesday morning given the freezing temperatures overnight, Helock said.
