John Elway documentary will hit Netflix on Dec. 22 (watch the trailer)

Thursday marked the announcement from Netflix of the release date of the John Elway documentary, “ELWAY,” which details the life of the Pro Football Hall of Famer. The documentary will premiere on the streaming platform on Monday, Dec. 22.
The documentary was originally announced in December 2024, directed with the help of Hall of Famer Peyton Manning’s media company, “Omaha Productions.” It gives a rare glimpse into the life of Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, who, as the Netflix trailer says, “transformed a city.”
Longtime teammate Karl Mecklenberg recently reviewed the film after its opening at the Denver Film Festival in early November. “I recommend the movie for those of you who are interested in learning what made arguably the best quarterback ever tick,” wrote Mecklenberg.
Elway has been a pillar of the Broncos since being drafted first overall in 1981 (he was traded to Denver from the Baltimore Colts). Elway helped bring the Broncos out of AFC obscurity after the “Orange Crush” years and into the most successful years the team has ever seen.
Elway led the Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances and two championships as a player, and later led the team as an executive to its third title. Elway helped land big fish as a general manager, such as Hall of Famers Demarcus Ware and Manning, and drafted cornerstone talents like Von Miller, Garett Bolles and Courtland Sutton. The one player Elway missed on as an executive after Manning was ironically, the quarterback.
