Forecast: Sunday’s temperatures take a tumble

Good morning Mid-MO, its cold out there. A cold front has brought cold arctic air into the region this morning, and its only going to get colder.
Temperatures will gradually drop through the day as our cold arctic air filters in. Hats, heavy coats, and gloves will be needed for any outdoor activities. By noon we will be in the lower 30s with wind chills in the 20s. Temperatures will keep on tumbling down, reaching the middle to upper 20s by dinner time. A flurry/ brief sprinkle cant be ruled out in the early afternoon, but for the most part we will be staying dry and mostly cloudy.
Temperatures will continue to tumble as we see our next pattern switch. High pressure begins to move into the Great Lakes overnight, leading to cold overnight temperatures. Lows will vary from north to south, along I-70 can can expect temperatures in the upper teens. Farther North in Macon, Moberly, and Paris, lows will be in the low to middle 10s with feels like values in the single digits. South of I-70 and the Ozarks can expect the lower 20s. Conditions will remain mostly cloudy overnight, preventing further cooling.
With upper level high pressure moving in, we will trend dryer and warmer through Tuesday. We start the work week with temperatures in the middle 30s, and seeing the return of a little sunshine. Kids heading off to school in morning will want to bundle up. The morning cold will be a bit brutal, but the afternoon ride home will be much better.
Temperatures skyrocket into the lower 50s for Tuesday with the return of southerly winds. Tuesday looks to be the pick of the week for outdoor activities, and maybe even a short sleeved t-shirt. A mix of sun & clouds sticks around for Tuesday before our weather pattern flip flops once again. A series of cold fronts and low pressure systems will move through the region between Wednesday and next weekend, bringing active weather. We are tracking our next chance of some light snow arriving early morning on Thursday. Make sure to stay up to date with the latest details here on KOMU 8.
