With IT: Welcome to Derry redefining the meaning of horror in the It franchise, two prominent stars of the prequel series have come out to list their scariest scenes from the show so far. In a recent interview, Blake Cameron James and Arian S. Arian S. Cartaya ‘crapped his pants’ in one Welcome to Derry scene
During a recent conversation, the Gordita Chronicles actor admitted that the graveyard scene of IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 3 has been the scariest experience for him on the show.
“For me, it was the scene in the cemetery where my uncle, as a ghost, flies over my head while riding my bike,” Arian S. Cartaya noted to Collider. Explaining why the scene in question bothered him so much, he stated, “My uncle had a big influence on my life back in Cuba, and just seeing him flying over my head was a little weird, so I was scared in that moment. I was in shock.”
Cartaya then highlighted Bill Skarsgård’s contribution to the scariest scenes in IT: Welcome to Derry. He added, “But also, in real life, Pennywise absolutely scared the crap out of me.” The young actor referred to a particular sequence from Episode 5 of the prequel series. It brings Rich and his mates face-to-face with Pennywise for the first time.
“That scene when he lunged towards us in the sewers, I genuinely think I crapped my pants on that one,” Cartaya announced. Meanwhile, Blake Cameron James echoed his co-star’s sentiments about the maniacal clown. He stated, “Pennywise has been my biggest fear, forever. Him, just being himself, is the scariest thing to me.”
Additionally, James elaborated on another scene from Episode 4, where Will gets pulled underwater. “One of my favorite shots is when the camera is underneath the water, and I’m screaming. That shot is fire. I never knew how the CGI for Leroy would look like underneath with his face, so it was cool to see that. It was a crazy experience,” he shared.
So far, IT: Welcome to Derry has premiered six episodes of its eight-episode roster. The remaining two chapters will come out on HBO and HBO Max on December 7 and 14.
