The Legendary King of Tokyo is Smashing its Way onto PC & Consoles in 2026

King of Tokyo – coming to console

Get ready to roll the dice and level the city – King of Tokyo is coming to the virtual scene.

Microids has officially announced that the iconic tabletop smash-hit, King of Tokyo, is making its video game debut in Spring 2026. The game is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Created by the legendary Richard Garfield – the mastermind behind Magic: The Gathering – the original board game has sold over a million copies worldwide; and you can grab it from the likes of Amazon right now if you like. Now, that same addictive blend of strategy, luck, and giant monster mayhem is coming to your screen with explosive new visuals and animations.

A Kaiju Battle for Supremacy

If you’ve never played the board game, you are in for a treat. King of Tokyo puts you in the oversized shoes (or claws) of a gigantic mutant monster, a rampaging robot, or a menacing alien. Your goal? To be the one and only King of Tokyo.

This is a high-stakes King of the Hill style battle where you must weigh the risks of seizing control of the city against the danger of becoming a target for every other monster on the board.

The video game adaptation promises to capture the dynamic spirit of the tabletop original while adding a layer of immersion that only a video game can provide.

The Dice Decide Your Fate

At the heart of the game is the dice roll. You will roll to create combinations that allow you to heal your wounds, attack your rivals, gather energy, or earn those all-important Victory Points.

The first player to reach 20 Victory Points – or the last monster left standing – wins the game.

It’s not just about brute force though. You will gather energy during the game to purchase Power Cards. These cards can completely shift your strategy, granting you special abilities like extra heads, radioactive breath, or armour plating. With an intricate card system, no two battles for the city will ever be the same.

A Roster of Legends

You’ll be able to choose from six of the most iconic monsters in the franchise’s history to dominate the skyline:

  • Gigazaur
  • Cyber Kitty
  • Alienoid
  • The King
  • Mecha Dragon
  • Space Penguin

Solo or Local Multiplayer Mayhem

Whether you want to train against the AI or ruin friendships on the couch, King of Tokyo has you covered. The game features both Solo modes against AI opponents of varying difficulties and Local Multiplayer for up to 6 players.

It’s the perfect setup for a chaotic game night without the setup time of the physical version.

The city is waiting to be conquered. With its blend of accessible dice-rolling fun and deep strategic choices, King of Tokyo is shaping up to be a fantastic addition to the digital tabletop genre on Xbox.

Pre-orders are available now ahead of the Spring 2026 launch. We’ll be sure to keep you looped, especially once a fully confirmed release date is known.
