Manchester United have the player who will break Ronaldo’s number 7 curse

Manchester United’s famous number seven jersey seems to finally be ending its “curse”.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009, the only player to wear the number 7 during his second spell at Old Trafford was himself.
Now, Mason Mount is showing signs that he can end that negative streak, writes The Sun.
The curse of the famous number
Between Ronaldo’s spells, the shirt made iconic by George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham was worn by Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di María, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanchez and Edinson Cavani.
None of them managed to leave a deep mark: Owen had injury problems, Valencia was looking to return to number 25, Di María only lasted a year, Depay 18 months, Sánchez failed, while Cavani, despite 17 goals in one season, was often unavailable.
The difficult journey of Mount
Mason Mount, signed in 2023 for €68 million, had two difficult seasons due to injuries and inconsistent form.
Under Erik ten Hag, he missed a lot of games, 31 in his first season and 30 in his second. The win against Crystal Palace was the first game he played from start to finish since November 2023. He scored the winning goal.
The Renaissance under Ruben Amorim
With the arrival of Ruben Amorim at Man United, the situation has changed significantly. Mount has missed only one match this season and is showing great influence on the game, scoring crucial goals and being a key creator of chances.
Amorim has publicly admitted that he “loves” the player, and the reasons are clear: in just six games as a starter in the Premier League this season, he has provided eight key passes, while his contribution off the ball is just as important.
The future of the number 7 jersey
With the midfield likely to be rebuilt next year, Mount has established himself as one of Man United’s three main strikers.
He will face tests of his mettle in the games against West Ham and Wolves. If he continues his form, it is only a matter of time before the Old Trafford stands are chanting his name and breaking the ‘curse’ of the number 7. /Telegraph/
