Shelter-in-place lifted after active situation at Fort Stewart, investigation ongoing

FORT STEWART, Ga. (WTOC) – [UPDATE 5:55 p.m.] WTOC has learned from Fort Stewart officials that law enforcement responded around 4:38 p.m. earlier today to an incident of a “solider in distress.”

Officials say the situation has been resolved and an investigation is ongoing.

[UPDATE 5:33 p.m.] The shelter in place order has been lifted, according to Fort Stewart officials.

However, a law enforcement presence remains. Fort Stewart asks for individuals to avoid the area of Bryan Village as there is still an ongoing incident in that area.

A Fort Stewart official has told WTOC that this was an isolated incident contained to Ardennes Ct. on base.

[ORIGINAL STORY] There is currently an active shooter in a residential area of Fort Stewart.

The Hinesville Police Department confirmed this news to WTOC in a phone call just now.

Residents should remain inside their homes and everyone else should avoid the area, if possible.

A shelter in place has been issued on Fort Stewart, according to a social media post. Law enforcement are currently on scene.

Fort Stewart asks individuals to stay indoors and to follow the official Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield channels for updates.
