Colts to Attempt to Bring Philip Rivers Out of Retirement

In one of the most improbable comebacks in the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts are attempting to bring Philip Rivers out of retirement. Following the announcement of Daniel Jones being lost for the season, the organization is going with a familiar face.

Rivers will work out with the Colts on Tuesday. The team plans to assess his skills to see if he is in game shape to lead the team.

Rivers spent the majority of his career with the then-San Diego Chargers. He would join the Colts in his final season in the NFL during the 2020 season.

Rivers ended the year with 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also posted a 68 percent completion percentage. His final season in the NFL was certainly a successful one.

Per reports, Rivers is entertaining the idea of returning to the Colts and will be flying in. However, it is not guaranteed that he will want to play.

The Colts found themselves in a huge problem when Jones went down with an Achilles injury. It was confirmed that he tore his Achilles tendon, which has ended his season.

Even worse, the Colts’ backup quarterback, Riley Leonard, is dealing with knee soreness and will presumably not be able to play in Week 15. Anthony Richardson also remains on IR due to an eye injury.

The Colts are simply out of quarterbacks, and the team is going a wild route by attempting to bring Rivers back into the game. There are a number of other options the team may want to explore should Rivers not work out. Ryan Tannehill being one of them.
