M4 closures to hit drivers this week with 12 major routes across Wales disrupted by roadworks
Several main roads in south Wales are affected by closures due to roadworks in the days ahead – here’s everything you need to know

Motorists across Wales are being urged to brace themselves for travel disruption this week as a series of planned roadworks are set to cause disruptions on key routes.
Major roads such as the M4 and various A-roads will be impacted, with drivers being advised to prepare in advance and factor in additional time for their travels. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here.
Here is a list of scheduled full and partial road closures for the coming week, according to Traffic Wales and traffic monitoring system Inrix.
- M48: Severn Bridge, both directions – 7.5t weight restriction for heavy goods vehicles until further notice
- A4060: Both directions, Pentrebach to A470 Abercanaid. Roadworks, diversions in place between 8pm and 6am until December 19
- A470: Northbound, Nantgarw, onslip closed between 8pm and 6am until December 3
- A470: Northbound, Upper Boat, onslip closed between 8pm and 6am until December 3
- A470: Both directions, Taff’s Well, carriageway maintenance, offslip closed, onslip closed. Diversions in place between 8pm and 6am until December 5
- M4: Eastbound, J38 Margam to J37 Pyle. Carriageway maintenance, road closed .Diversions in place between 8pm and 6am until December 6
- M4: Westbound, J37 Pyle to J38 Margam, carriageway maintenance, road closed. Diversions in place between 8pm and 6am until December 6
- M4: Eastbound, J43 Llandarcy to J42 Earlswood. Carriageway maintenance, road closed. Diversions in place between 8pm and 6am until December 5
- A477: Both directions, Llanteg, resurfacing work, temporary traffic lights between 8am and 5pm until December 12
- A5 Menai Bridge: Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A5 Menai Bridge between A487 Treborth Road (Antelope Roundabout) and A545/A5/New Street, between 7.30am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays until December 3
- A40 Rhos, Pembrokeshire: Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A40 in both directions from The Rhos Turn Off (Rhos) to The Toch Lane Turn Off (Canaston Bridge). Expect delays. Until December 19
- A4216 Cockett Road, Swansea: Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on A4216 Cockett Road at Townhill Road. Expect delays. Until October 2026.
