Man’s body found on M4 motorway as police completely close road in both directions

A young man’s tragic death sparked traffic chaos after police rushed to the scene on receiving reports of a man in distress but sadly arrived too help to save him

The M4 was shut in both directions on Saturday after a tragic incident in which a young man lost his life

The M4 motorway was closed near Bridgend in South Wales as a 24-year-old man’s body was discovered on the road.

A body was found on a slip road on Saturday evening after police were told of a man in distress on an M4 footbridge. South Wales Police rushed to the motorway near Junction 36 shortly before 9.30pm on Saturday.

Once at the scene, officers found the man on the slip road. Paramedics from South Wales Ambulance Service also attended but were unable to revive him. “Ambulance unsuccessfully attempted resuscitation,” said the police. “The motorway was briefly closed in both directions to allow for police and CSI attendance.”

The man has been identified as from Litchard in Bridgend. His family confirmed his identity and are now receiving support from specialist officers, Wales Online reported.

The motorway was briefly closed in both directions as emergency services responded to the incident.

“Officers were called to the M4 footbridge near Junction 36 shortly before 9:30pm on Saturday December 6 following a report of a man in distress,” said a spokesperson from South Wales Police.

“The body of a man was located on the slip road nearby upon emergency services arrival. Ambulance unsuccessfully attempted resuscitation. The motorway was briefly closed in both directions to allow for police and CSI attendance.

“The man has been identified as a 24-year-old man from Litchard, Bridgend. His family are aware and have confirmed ID, and are being supported.”
