‘You were told – this was expected’ Cork city council in calm response to irate motorists delayed by storm

As Storm Bram makes itself felt across the country, motorists in Cork City have been subjected to long delays this morning, with several streets closed.
Despite warnings across media outlets about the storm arriving this morning, some motorists stuck in heavy traffic have been getting irate at the delays and road closures.
Speaking on Morning Ireland a short time ago, David Joyce – Director of Emergency Management & Climate Action with Cork City Council appealed for calm from the city’s motorists, telling RTE’s Justin McCarthy there had been a number of reports of very irate drivers in the city centre this morning who were disrupted by the floods.

Speaking calmly to motorists who were delayed by Storm Bram, David Joyce said, ‘This was expected, you were told.’
High tide in Cork city was due at 0830, after which time the water is expected to subside somewhat.
Storm Bram has hit the South and Southwest of the country this morning, and Met Éireann has upgraded the storm warning to an Orange level for the entire country, while a string of weather warnings have been put into place for the coming days amid fears of a ‘conveyor belt of storms’ coming towards Ireland.
Several flight disruptions have been reported at Dublin Airport this morning, with 42 flights cancelled so far: 21 inbound and 21 outbound.

Intending passengers are urged to check with their airline before they leave home to check the status of their flight.
These delays will, of course, have knock-on effects across the day, with travel disruption expected to continue until this evening.
