Kehlani Has Full Custody of Her Daughter, No Contact With…

Kehlani provided an update on their custody battle with ex Javaughn Young-White during their appearance on The Breakfast Club.

“I have full custody,” Kehlani tells Jess Hilarious about the status of their legal battle. When asked about being in contact with Young-White, the singer flatly responded, “No.”

Kehlani and Young-White were embroiled in a highly-publicized custody battle last year that saw him release a statement in which he asked TMZ to retract and apologize for publishing an article claiming he thought the singer was involved in a cult.

“The TMZ article sensationalized aspects of what was said while simultaneously breaching my confidentiality,” his statement reads. “Further, the filing of my case was incomplete and did not have my authorization by error of counsel. I am no longer represented by the aforementioned counsel. There will be an amended filing soon which will illustrate the full range of my concern.”

Young-White said he did not intend on painting “an unfair image” of Kehlani as he sought sole custody of their daughter.

Kehlani called the allegations “incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue.”

Looking back, the singer said they were listening to their lawyer, regarding how they should proceed amid their custody battle. However, seeing a photo of their daughter, or her name being mentioned, alongside the aforementioned allegations, was admittedly tough for Kehlani.

“I can bear anything attached to my name. It might hurt. I might throw a little bit of a fit about it, but I’m an adult. I can bear that,” Kehlani said. “When you see your child’s name attached to these things, your child’s photo next to certain words and certain verbiage, that’s a bit of a heartbreaker.”

Kehlani said what made the whole situation so “treacherous” was seeing these personal matters go public. The singer expressed a similar concern while denying allegations of an inappropriate relationship with their daughter, stemming from a “lighthearted conversation” with Young-White about a past life reading.

“I’ve been silent, i’ve taken the public beating,” they wrote. “I’ve been addressing all of these things where i should, in COURT. i’ve sat there and watched the public only have access to ONE SIDE of things. but THIS is where i absolutely draw the line.”

As for the cult allegations, Kehlani classified the matter as a “tough situation.”

“Ultimately, the claims were false. It wasn’t true. He backtracked a lot,” Kehlani said.

The conversation starts at the 32-minute mark.
