Thousands of homes and businesses have been left without power as Storm Bram brings gusts over 100km/h barrelling across the southwest of Ireland. The storm is making its way up the country, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake, including many properties left in the dark for the morning.

ESB crews are out across the county to tackle power outages, a number of which have been caused by fallen trees on power lines. Most outages are expected to be restored this afternoon.

Areas affected include:

  • 1598 Customers are affected in Whitechurch
  • 1088 Customers are affected in Curraglass, North Cork
  • Over 1200 Customers are affected in Charleville and surrounds
  • 977 Customers are affected in Mayfield
  • 97 Customers are affected in Trabeg
  • 29 customers are affected in Castlelyons
  • 10 Customers are affected in Kilbarry

ESB has apologised for any inconvenience and told customers that crews are currently working to repair faults and restore power as quickly as possible. Customers who have lost their electricity supply can check online at ESB’s Power Check service.

A number of outages have been caused by falling trees. According to Carlow Weather, earlier weather station reports show that Storm Bram winds picked up with gusts of 113kmh at Roche’s point and 100kmh at Cork Airport at around 11am. Strong winds will move up across the country over the coming hours.

A number of roads have been closed by fallen trees too, as well as flooding affecting travel in some areas. See LIVE updates here.
