National Grid New York president discusses energy affordability and transition

Under the umbrella of affordability, we know that energy costs will be a major issue both in the next legislative session as well as during the 2026 gubernatorial race.

Gov. Kathy Hochul is already being both praised and criticized for the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s approval of key permits for the NESE pipeline which will bring fracked gas from Pennsylvania into New York.

With that in mind, Capital Tonight invited the New York president of National Grid into the studio to discuss energy affordability, and why our utility costs appear to be rising.

According to Sally Librera, there are several issues impacting customers’ bills, including the ongoing upgrade of the 70-year-old energy supply chain.

“We are working with our suppliers well in advance to lock in different elements of supply so we can lock in these prices as early as possible,” Librera told Capital Tonight.

In the most recent rate case, National Grid agreed to several a few service enhancements, including hiring more consumer advocates, to help low-income New Yorkers.
