There was no greater college football-related amusement Sunday than the grumbling and doomsaying that resulted from Notre Dame’s decision to take its shamrock and stay home from a bowl game after getting shut out of the College Football Playoff.
There was plenty of thinly veiled self-interest at work as various people who benefit from the bowl system gasped in horror as the biggest college football brand of them all told them to take a hike after the playoff selection committee decided a head-to-head game played in August means more this week than it did last week.
