Blue Jays Predicted to Sign 2-Time Silver Slugger Amid Rumors

The Toronto Blue Jays are already one of the best teams in baseball, but have made moves to get even better this offseason, signing Dylan Cease and agreeing to sign Cody Ponce.
The Blue Jays have continuously been linked to another star free agent as well: Kyle Tucker. ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently noted that the Blue Jays are seen as favorites to sign Tucker by other executives. MLB Network’s Tom Verducci predicted Tucker would sign with the Blue Jays at the winter meetings.
Tucker is one of the best players in baseball and could make the Blue Jays even bigger threats to win the World Series. Tucker is a Gold Glove Award winner, a two-time Silver Slugger, a four-time All-Star and a World Series champion.
Since 2021, Tucker has had 134 home runs. He was an All-Star last season, but it was a down year by his standards. He hit just 22 home runs, his lowest total in a full season since 2019. He hit more home runs playing just 78 games in 2024.
However, Tucker’s down seasons still boasted a .841 OPS. Additionally, his splits indicate he is a mere change of scenery away from once again being a 30-plus home run threat. At home last season, Tucker slashed just .236/.353/.395 and hit seven home runs. On the road, he had a .292/.399/.524 nslash line with 15 home runs. Clearly, something about Wrigley Field did not do him any favors.
The Blue Jays already have Vladimir Guerrero Jr. inked to a long-term deal. Adding Tucker to their lineup would give them one of the best duos in all of baseball. If they can retain Bo Bichette on top of that, their big three would rival the Los Angeles Dodgers’ trio of superstars.
Tucker has already reportedly visited the Blue Jays’ spring training facility. Perhaps the two sides have already started negotiating in hopes of getting a deal done.
