Philadelphia Phillies extend manager Rob Thomson’s contract through 2027 season

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Philadelphia Phillies have extended the contract of manager Rob Thomson through the 2027 season.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, made the announcement on Tuesday.

Thomson finished the year as a finalist for National League Manager of the Year, and led the Phillies to their second consecutive National League East title.

He became only the fourth manager in MLB history to reach the postseason in each of the first four full seasons to begin a managerial career – joining the ranks of Dave Roberts, Aaron Boone and Mike Matheny.

Since his first game as manager on June 3, 2022, Thomson has guided the Phillies to the second-most wins (346) and second-best winning percentage (.580) among all clubs in MLB, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers (368 wins, .616).

Prior to joining the Phillies as a bench coach on December 5, 2017, Thomson spent 28 years as a member of the New York Yankees organization, including 10 seasons on the major league coaching staff as bench coach and third base coach.
