Mets, Yankees interested in trading for this All-Star closer

ORLANDO — Ace Freddy Peralta isn’t the only All-Star on the Brewers attracting trade interest this offseason.
Teams like the Mets and Yankees have checked in with Milwaukee on the availability of closer Trevor Megill, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported on Monday evening.
Megill had a career year in the back of the Brewers’ bullpen in 2025. He posted a 2.49 ERA over 47 innings, racking up 30 saves with overpowering strikeout and swing-and-miss stuff.
The right-hander, the older brother of Mets starter Tylor Megill, was sidelined late in the year by a right flexor strain. That injury could be a red flag in possible trade talks, but he finished the year on a high note, pitching well in the playoffs for Milwaukee.
Megill is an obvious fit for the Mets as they continue to look for late-inning relievers. New York signed Devin Williams in free agency already this offseason, but as president of baseball operations David Stearns reiterated on Monday, they have a need for more bullpen arms. That’s especially the case after Edwin Díaz opted out to test the open market — he could return, but the Mets are understandably casting a wide net on the bullpen market.
“I wouldn’t say we’re done with our bullpen at this point,” Stearns said. “We understand we’ve got some roles to fill in the pen and I’m confident we’re gonna be able to do so.”
It was reported recently by SNY’s Andy Martino that the Mets are also talking with closers Robert Suarez and Pete Fairbanks in free agency.
Megill is under contract for two more years and if he can pick up where he left off next season, he’d be a bargain financially. It’s unclear if the Brewers will actually move Megill, but if they do, the asking price will be high.
The same goes for Peralta, who would arguably be the best starter available via trade if Tarik Skubal stays put in Detroit this offseason. Peralta would be a rental with one year remaining until he hits free agency, but he has Cy Young upside in any rotation. Peralta won a league-high 17 games in 2025, posting a career-best 2.70 ERA in 33 starts.
