Tom Hardy in backstage feud with unexpected A-list co-star after turning up late to Mobland filming

MOBLAND has been rocked by allegations of tension between Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren after he reportedly turned up late to filming.

Production sources claimed Oscar-winning Helen became irritated by Hardy’s behaviour – including alleged lateness and being seen playing games on his phone.

Dame Helen later denied there was any bad blood between them

One insider claimed Hardy can “get cross” and “swaggers around like he’s the king,” with the source adding to The Mail on Sunday: “It feels like Tom is winding her up.”

Sources told that Dame Helen, 80, who plays formidable mob matriarch Maeve Harrigan, was “getting increasingly frustrated” with Hardy, 48, who returns as gangster fixer Harry Da Souza.

However following the reports, Dame Helen later denied there was any bad blood between them.

She took to Instagram on Monday to heap praise on her co-star under-fire co-star.

Shutting down rift claims, Helen shared a red carpet picture of Tom, and wrote a list of her likes and dislikes over the top.

She wrote of his “brilliance, dedication, good heart and HardyHugs”.

The Dame added: “Things I love. 1. Christmas for obvious reasons. 2. Tom Hardy for his brilliance onscreen, his dedication off screen, his good heart and especially the HardyHugs I get when onset with him which is not nearly enough in my opinion.”

The pair reunited just over a month ago as cameras rolled again on Guy Ritchie’s widely praised crime saga.

One source had claimed: “He can be late to filming and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined …

“She expects better. She holds people to a high standard. She’s 80. She’s been there and seen it all.

“The behind-the-scenes crew watch it all and believe that she no longer looks as happy working on scenes with him. It has all become quite personal between them.”

They added: “It’s a fantastic show and everyone loves working on it. It’s such a shame there is this undertone.’”

Pierce Brosnan appears as Dame Helen’s on-screen husband Conrad and Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt as Jan Da Souza, wife to Hardy’s character.

The Sun contacted their reps for comment.

It’s not the first report of Tom clashing with an A-list co-star.

Charlize Theron is said to have branded him a “f****** c***” after he left her waiting on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road for hours.

Cast and crew members said things got so bad between the pair that Charlize requested the company of a female producer with her at all times for “protection” against the actor.

Charlize played Imperator Furiosa in the 2015 movie, while Tom starred as Max Rockatansky.

He later apologised for his behaviour saying “what she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced, partner in me.

“That’s something that can’t be faked.”

Tom grew up in posh south-west London in East Sheen.

He was the only child of Cambridge-educated writer Edward “Chips” Hardy and mum Anne, an artist.

He previously said: “I always had a sense of shame about being privileged.

“It’s taken me a long time to realise it’s OK to be from Sheen, it’s OK to be a public schoolboy. It’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at.

“I grew up around people carriers and cardigans and the deer in Richmond Park, but behind those Laura Ashley curtains there are a lot of demons.

“East Sheen is a middle-class area but there’s trouble if you want it.”

Helen was raised in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, and attended Catholic girls school St Bernard’s High School for Girls.

She said: “I was raised in Leigh-on-Sea and am proud of my Essex roots.”
