Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Anthony Richardson will not be returning to practice this week, said head coach Shane Steichen on Monday.
“He won’t be this week,” Steichen said of Richardson. “He’s still working through. Obviously, it’s an eye; it’s very delicate, and so he’s just resting it, and once the doctors and trainers clear him to be activated. That’s just where it’s at right now. Still just healing up.”
Richardson remains on injured reserve after sustaining an orbital fracture while warming up prior to a game earlier this season. A pole that was attached to a stretch band snapped and impacted Richardson around his eye.
Last week, Steichen was asked about Richardson and said at that time that he was “hopeful” that he could return this season. However, no specific timetable for a potential return was ever mentioned.
According to Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan, Steichen also mentioned last week that Richardson was doing some work in the weight room, but he was not doing any field work at that time.
Steichen would also confirm on Monday that Daniel Jones did suffer a torn right Achilles. He will have surgery within the week.
Riley Leonard, who took over at quarterback in Jacksonville after Jones exited the game, is “working through” a right knee injury, said Steichen.
The “hope” is that he will be able to play on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
On the practice squad, the Colts have veteran Brett Rypien, who has been in the NFL since 2019. During that span, he has made 11 appearances, including four starts.
