Ex-Calgary Flames forward Dillon Dube has joined a new team

Former Calgary Flames forward Dillon Dube is heading back to North America to resume his professional hockey career.

Dube, who logged 325 games with the Flames from 2018 to 2024, is reportedly planning to sign an AHL contract with the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds serve as the AHL affiliate for the St. Louis Blues.

Dube left the Flames partway through the 2023-24 season with what was cited as mental health reasons. Shortly after he left, however, it was confirmed that he was one of five players from Canada’s 2018 World Junior team charged with sexual assault.

Dube, along with Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton, was found not guilty in the high-profile trial that reached its verdict this past July. All five were eligible to sign with NHL teams as of Oct. 15 and were able to return to game action on Dec. 1.

While awaiting trial, Dube did continue his playing career, suiting up for 42 games with Minsk Dynamo of the KHL in 2024-25. During that span, he racked up four goals and 11 points. He also suited up for four postseason games, where he was held pointless.

In his 325 NHL games to date, Dube has managed 57 goals and 127 points. His best season to date came in 2022-23, where he scored 18 goals and a career-high 45 points in 82 games.

Dube is the final player of the five previously mentioned to sign a contract since the not guilty verdict was issued.

Hart is back in the NHL, having appeared in two games with the Vegas Golden Knights. McLeod is overseas playing in the KHL, while Formenton is playing in Switzerland. Foote, meanwhile, recently signed an AHL deal with the Chicago Wolves and has appeared in two games thus far.
