Bobby Shuttleworth named head coach of Texas A&M soccer team

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M University has announced the appointment of Bobby Shuttleworth as the new head coach of the Texas A&M soccer team. This decision, made by Director of Athletics Trev Alberts, marks a significant shift for the program as it seeks to continue its tradition of excellence.
Alberts expressed enthusiasm over Shuttleworth’s hiring, stating, “We are very excited to welcome Bobby and his family to Aggieland. He is a proven winner both as a coach and player, with a track record of developing high-level talent.” He also emphasized Shuttleworth’s leadership skills and competitive vision, underscoring confidence that he will enhance the program while supporting student-athletes in their athletic and academic pursuits.
Shuttleworth, who recently celebrated a national championship victory with Florida State, highlighted his gratitude for the opportunity. “My family and I are deeply grateful to join a place that means so much to so many,” he remarked. He committed to upholding Texas A&M’s legacy of success, emphasizing a relentless pursuit of winning and a focus on the holistic development of student-athletes.
Having served as associate head coach for the previous two seasons at Florida State, Shuttleworth played a pivotal role in leading the Seminoles to their recent NCAA title. His coaching tenure there was marked by a remarkable 70-7-12 record, boasting a winning percentage of .854, the highest in the nation during that period. Notably, he was instrumental in guiding his athletes to excel in high-pressure postseason scenarios, culminating in a significant postseason record during his four years.

In addition to his coaching achievements, Shuttleworth also had a distinguished 14-year career in Major League Soccer (MLS), where he earned recognition as one of the top goalkeepers. His professional journey included stints with the New England Revolution, Minnesota United FC, Chicago Fire FC, and Atlanta United, during which he made 232 regular-season appearances and secured 81 wins, along with 53 clean sheets.
Shuttleworth understands the weight of the responsibility he is taking on with the Aggies, who are the only team in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the state of Texas to reach the impressive milestone of 500 wins. His commitment to honoring the program’s winning tradition includes a focus on developing student-athletes not only as competitors but also as leaders and individuals of high character.
“We will strive to develop top-level players while also helping them grow as students, leaders, teammates, and individuals,” he stated, outlining a vision that encompasses both athletic success and personal growth.
With a solid education background from the University of Buffalo, where he still holds records for goals against average, Shuttleworth is poised to make a significant impact in his new role as head coach. His extensive experience and proven ability to foster talent leave the Aggie community eager to see how he will shape the future of Texas A&M soccer.
