Temperatures to plummet by up to 10C as cool change sweeps through the east

A cool change sweeping across New South Wales could see temperatures plummet by up to 10 degrees in some areas following a sweltering spell of early summer weather.
The state’s capital experienced sizzling conditions over the weekend, with heatwave warnings issued as bushfires raged across NSW.
Examining Tuesday’s temperatures, Sky News Weather Presenter Emma Wightman said the mercury rose to nearly 32 degrees in Sydney, while parts of the city’s west nudged 38.
Elsewhere in NSW, Wilcannia in the state’s north-west recorded 38.6 degrees on Tuesday and Bourke, further north, reached a scorching 40.1 degrees.
Looking ahead at Wednesday’s outlook, Wightman explained there was “some relief on the way” for those affected by the heat.
“A southerly change arriving overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday will bring that relief, particularly across eastern parts of the state,” she said.
As the cool change sweeps through the region, Wightman explained temperatures could plummet by as much as 10 degrees in some areas.
“Sydney and Gosford both heading down to 26 degrees on Wednesday. However, it will remain very warm in northern and western parts of the state,” she said.
“Bourke again heading for a top of 42 degrees, 39 in Cobar, even Canberra staying very warm at 33 degrees.”
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a cloudy day for Sydney on Wednesday with a medium chance of showers, most likely in the evening.
Across the nation’s other capital cities on Wednesday, Brisbane is expected to reach 30 degrees on a mostly sunny and slightly windy day.
Melbourne, meanwhile, is forecast to reach 20 degrees, with the possibility of a shower in the afternoon and early evening.
In the west, a sunny day is expected in Perth as the mercury climbs to a summery 33-degree maximum.
Hobart looks likely to be significantly cooler, with the city forecast to record a high of 21 degrees on a partly cloudy day.
A slight chance of a shower in the late morning and early afternoon is forecast for Adelaide on Wednesday, with the city expected to reach a top of 29 degrees.
In Darwin, the BOM warned a thunderstorm and a high chance of showers was likely as the city appears set for a muggy maximum temperature of 33 degrees.
