Man Utd’s next five fixtures and the big opportunity ahead for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United could end the season on a high if Ruben Amorim’s side plays their cards right over the festive period.
The mood at half-time was completely different to the feelings expressed by Manchester United fans at full-time on Monday night.
United beat Wolves 4-1 at Molineux to take sixth place in the Premier League table.
It’s an early sign that it could be a better Christmas for the Red Devils this time around, but that will depend heavily on the upcoming fixtures in what has been an unpredictable campaign – albeit for most teams.
Ruben Amorim’s best run as United’s head coach came in October, winning all three league matches. It will take a similar feat to prove there’s been any progress ahead of the New Year.

Man Utd can take advantage of Premier League unpredictability
After beating Wolves, United fans will be eagerly looking at the fixture list to see what is coming up.
There’s a huge feeling of uncertainty with every United match at the moment, regardless of the opponent. That can change quickly by winning consecutive matches and United will aim to do that against Bournemouth next week.
The next five fixtures will be telling to see where United are at the moment. They also come at a time when Amorim will be losing key players, such as Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo, to the Africa Cup of Nations.
United have a chance to make it back-to-back league wins when they host Bournemouth at Old Trafford next week. It doesn’t get much easier after that with a trip to Aston Villa on December 21.
The Reds are involved in the only Premier League fixture to be played on Boxing Day when they host Newcastle, although things get easier for the reverse fixture against Wolves before travelling to Leeds.
- Manchester United vs Bournemouth – Monday, 15 December
- Aston Villa vs Manchester United – Sunday, 21 December
- Manchester United vs Newcastle – Friday, 26 December
- Manchester United vs Wolves – Tuesday, 30 December
- Leeds vs Manchester United – Sunday, 4 January

Considering there are currently two points separating United and Crystal Palace in fourth, if Amorim’s side can get a run of wins together, and the teams around us keep dropping points, there’s a good chance the Red Devils will be in the top four at the start of the New Year.
That just shows how unpredictable the Premier League is this season.
It’s also important to note that United contribute massively to that because the lack of consistency this season has been a constant concern.
Ruben Amorim looking for first win against Bournemouth
United’s last win over Bournemouth came in the 2022/23 season.
The Cherries beat United 3-0 at Old Trafford before a 1-1 draw last term, and they will be aiming for a similar upset this time around.
That means Amorim is seeking his first win over Bournemouth, if United are to make it two wins on the bounce.
United-linked Antoine Semenyo will be looking to cause problems in what could be an audition ahead of the January transfer window.
The priority next Monday night won’t be transfers, though. It will be putting another three points on the board.
