Maple Leafs’ McMann suspended one game for high-sticking

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann has been suspended one game for high-sticking, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the beginning of the third period when McMann’s stick made contact with Tampa Bay Lightning forward Oliver Bjorkstrand’s helmet during a scrum.

McMann was given a five-minute major penalty for the play and a game misconduct.

The 6-foot-2 centre will not be available to the team when they take on the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

McMann has eight goals and 14 points in 29 games this season.

Toronto sits in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with a 14-11-4 record and are two points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers for the two Eastern Conference wild-card spots.
