Key Stories to Watch
- After being the goalie of decision for each of the last five games, Blackwood will get the day off and will serve as the backup to Scott Wedgewood, who is returning from a three-game injury absence. Wedgewood was hurt in Colorado’s last home game against the Vancouver Canucks.
- Martin Necas is under the weather and did not take the ice for morning skate. If he’s not feeling better for puck drop, he could be replaced by Gavin Brindley, who is also coming off an injury.
- The Avalanche are completing a four-game road trip, which included games last Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- The Avs are facing Nashville for the second time in just over two weeks. They’ll round out the third game against the Preds at Ball Arena on Saturday. Colorado won 3-0 in the first meeting thanks to a magnificent 35-save shutout performance from Blackwood.
- Colorado is coming off two straight 3-2 victories thanks to game-winning goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Valeri Nichushkin. MacKinnon’s tally on Saturday was in OT. The Avs are 2-6 past regulation but are still tops in the NHL and became the first team to 20 wins in that game.
