Fallout producer reveals Season 3 will make major change to the games

Fallout Season 2 brings audiences back to the wacky nuclear wasteland on Prime Video, and Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard suggested Fallout Season 3 might have more freedom to explore the world of the games.
The first season ended with Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) confronting her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), who has hidden the fact that he’s a Vault-Tec employee with more nefarious intentions for the post-apocalyptic world. In fact, the big twist of the finale was that Hank was around 200 years in the past when Vault-Tec decided to drop the bombs itself.

Season 2 expands the scope of the TV universe by bringing fans to New Vegas, from the iconic Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment game, along with characters like Mr. House (Justin Theroux). It’s not clear what Hank wants with Sin City, but it’s probably nothing good. This is all while Maximus (Aaron Moten) has secured Cold Fusion for the Brotherhood, which they’ll likely use to expand their own power.

Todd Howard talks Fallout Season 3
Prime Video
During our interview for Fallout Season 2, Dexerto asked Howard about Season 3, since Prime Video renewed it in May 2025, and it starts filming in Summer 2026. When asked if locations like the Capitol Wasteland or the Commonwealth could be introduced in the future, Howard explained that the show has more freedom than the games to explore multiple places and timelines.
“I don’t wanna spoil anything, but what I would say is the show has an opportunity more so than a single game to pull things because we can jump locations, we can jump timelines,” he explained, being cautious not to reveal anything that might spoil Season 2.

“So whereas a game, we’re going to be set in one location and we’re not going to jump, then all of a sudden the camera cuts to this… We’re not going to do that.

“Naturally, we have this opportunity. And we sort of talk about that, like, ‘OK, what would we like to see? What does work in the storyline?’ Because we can do more than we thought we could when we first started, if that makes sense.”
