Mariona Caldentey has been nominated for the World Sport Star award at 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
She was a key figure in our UEFA Women’s Champions League-winning campaign during her debut season as a Gunner, scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances for us in all competitions, and winning the Women’s Player of the Year awards from the PFA and the WSL.
At UEFA Euro 2025, she went on to score in the final, which Spain lost to England on penalties, while she helped her country bounce back by winning the Nations League earlier this month.
For this award, she’s going up against Mohamed Salah, boxer Terence Crawford, pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and baseball player Shohei Ohtani.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 18 and you can watch the programme on BBC One from 7pm.
