Kiwi bowler Blair Tickner suffers gruesome injury in diving effort

New Zealand fast bowler Blair Tickner has suffered what looks like a gruesome shoulder dislocation while fielding during a Test match against the West Indies.

Tevin Imlach tucked a delivery down to fine leg off the bowling of Michael Rae, with Tickner diving to save a boundary.

He was successful in doing so, but was immediately in pain and couldn’t get back to his feet.

The 32-year-old was placed onto a stretcher and given the pain killing green whistle, as he was carted from the field in Wellington.

The exact injury is yet to be confirmed, but the broadcast seemed confident that the it was a dislocated shoulder.

“It does not look good. He put in a big effort to help his partner from the other end,” the commentator said.

Tickner joins a lengthy list of injured New Zealand players, including Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Will O’Rourke, Adam Milne, Ben Sears, Nathan Smith, Mitchell Santner, Finn Allen and Tom Blundell.

He was initially called into the side to cover for the injuries to Henry and Smith.

The seamer was the pick of the bowlers too, taking four wickets from 16 overs, removing West Indies batters Brandon King, Kavem Hodge, Shai Hope and captain Roston Chase.

New Zealand bowled the West Indies out for 205 on day one of the first Test in Wellington.

They will now be hoping to build a considerable lead, to cover for potentially being a bowler down in the second innings.
