Iowa DOT closing I-80/35 in western suburbs for two nights

CDOT: How to drive safely through a road construction zone

Be patient and drive carefully when driving through a work zone, the Colorado Department of Transportation says.

Upcoming overnight interstate closures might slow down your travel plans on Interstates 80 and 35 near Des Moines. The area between the southwest mixmaster and Iowa Highway 141 will be closed for construction.

When will the Iowa DOT close I-80/I-35?

A southbound I-80/35 segment will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, weather permitting. If weather delays the work, it will occur on the night of Dec. 9.

A northbound I-80/35 segment will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, until 4 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, weather permitting. If weather delays the work, it will occur on the night of Dec. 11.

Where is the detour when Iowa DOT closes southbound I-80/I-35?

For southbound traffic, drivers will exit I-80/35 at Iowa Highway 141. They will take N.W. Urbandale Drive, which becomes 100th Street and Valley West Drive, where drivers can merge onto Interstate 235.

To reconnect to westbound I-80 or southbound I-35, drivers should take I-235 west and continue through the open portions of the mixmaster.

Where is the detour when Iowa DOT closes southbound I-80/I-35?

For northbound traffic, that route is reversed. Drivers on I-35 north will exit onto I-235 at the mixmaster and drivers on eastbound I-80 will do the same. Drivers will exit at Valley West Drive and head north. The road will eventually become 100th Street and N.W. Urbandale Drive, where drivers can reconnect with I-80/35 at Iowa Highway 141.
