Mason Greenwood has received support from a number of former Manchester United teammates following his latest Champions League achievement with Marseille. The 24-year-old was named the Player of the Match award against Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday night, with Greenwood scoring a brace in their 3-2 win.
The forward scored on either side of the half, taking his tally to three goals in six games. The result lifted Marseille to nine points from six matches, putting them 16th in the league table.
Get Football News France awarded Greenwood an eight in their player ratings, writing: “The Englishman looked more like his usual self, and picked up where he left off against Lille with a little more energy.
“He found pockets of space in the first period inside the box, and knew when to drive at Christian Burgess and Kevin Mac Allister.

“It was his driving run and finish before the end of the first half which put OM ahead, before he utilised that deadly pace and dribbling ability again in the second half.
“After being played-in by [Matt] O’Riley the Englishman broke down the right, drove inside and finished past the left post of Kjell Scherpen.”
His stellar display comes just days after manager Roberto De Zerbi urged him to do more following their defeat to Lille. “We were passive from the first minute to the last. One shot on target for a player like Greenwood isn’t enough for him,” he said.
“Shooting so infrequently isn’t sufficient.”
Taking to Instagram after the game, Greenwood shared a picture of himself holding the award without a caption.

This prompted responses from a number of former United players, with Anthony Elanga taking the lead: “Keep it steppin!!,” while Teden Mengi added: “Yes sir!”
Meanwhile, current Reds players Diogo Dalot, Joe Hugill, Ethan Wheatley, and ex-United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka liked the post.
Greenwood left United last summer on a permanent deal after 17 years at the club, joining Ligue 1 outfit Marseille.
United confirmed the sale for £26.6 million (€31.6m) and also included a sell-on clause to secure a sizeable share of any future transfer.
