Wednesday’s EFL predictions

Runaway leaders Coventry aside, Hull have been the Championship’s great entertainers this season and the goals should continue to flow when they take on Wrexham at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers will be desperate to get their playoff hopes back on track after three losses in four games, but the manner of Friday’s 4-1 hiding at home to Yorkshire rivals Middlesbrough suggests that their confidence could be on the wane.

With 31 goals in 19 games, Hull arrived into this set of midweek fixtures as the third joint-highest scorers in the division, but they have the second-worst defence behind only rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday having conceded 34 times.

Hull have seen both teams score in 13 of their last 16 matches and Wrexham, on a nine-game unbeaten run in the Championship which features a win over Coventry, look sure to make their presence felt.

There are three more matches taking place in the Championship and third-placed Millwall look overpriced to bolster their promotion challenge with victory at Derby.

The Lions are doing remarkably well given the injury situation they have been dealt in recent times and they head to Pride Park on a three-game winning streak following triumphs over Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton and Bristol City.

Derby had been on a roll but they’ve now lost three of their last four matches, conceding three goals in successive home defeats to Watford and Leicester, proving vulnerable with star striker Carlton Morris sidelined until February.

Freshness could be key in League One as Rotherham host Blackpool, who are in action just three days after Sunday’s 4-1 victory over non-league Carlisle in the FA Cup.

The Millers, having been rested since a 7-2 silencing of Salford in the EFL Trophy eight days ago, are unbeaten in nine league games since the end of September and can capitalise on any possible fatigue from the Tangerines.

Blackpool are in the relegation places and have been desperate on their travels, picking up only four points from a possible 27.
