Road conditions, closures due to flooding in Whatcom, Skagit

These Skagit County roads are closed due to flooding, as of Wednesday morning. Several other roads in the county have water over the roadway, but remain open.

  • Swan Road, between Nookachamps Bridge to Mud Lake Road
  • Nicholson Road from SR20
  • Robinson Road, between SR20 and Lyman-Hamilton Highway
  • Lyman-Hamilton Highway is now closed in two places: 30191 Lyman Hamilton Hwy and 30105 Lyman Hamilton Hwy
  • Harrison Road, between 9353 Harrison and 9179 Harrison
  • Minkler Road, between Hoehn Road and Sims Road
  • West Whitmarsh Road, from Bennett Road to Bouslog Road
  • Healy Road, from Lyman Hamilton Highway to SR20
  • Fruitdale Road at 10432 Fruitdale

As of this morning, these roads are closed in Whatcom County:

  • Barrett Road at Paradise Road
  • Bylsma Road, north of East Wiser Lake Road
  • Ferndale Road, north of Marine Drive at gates
  • Marine Drive, between Lummi Shore Road and Rural Avenue and north of Bayon Road
  • Marine Drive, between Hoff Road and Bayon Road
  • Polinder Road, between Hannegan Road and Bylsma Road
  • Dewey Road, between North of Bakerview Road and Van Wyck Road

In Bellingham, police said at 11:38 a.m. on Facebook that several roads have water on them, including Meador under I-5, Iowa and Moore, and Iowa and Lincoln. The police department said public works is working to alleviate the issue or close the roadway, and urged people not to drive through standing water over a roadway.

Water is now over several more roadways in Whatcom and Skagit counties, including Lyman-Hamilton Highway, according to county public works pages. Check the latest on Whatcom roads here, and Skagit roads here.

Hannegan Road was closed for much of yesterday but reopened at 6 p.m. last night.

Bus information

Whatcom Transportation Authority canceled afternoon trips (at 4:05 p.m. and 6:24 p.m.) of Route 71X Everson/Nooksack/Sumas. The final departure today will be at 11:30 a.m., departing from Cordata Station. Those who need assistance should contact the WTA at 360-676-7433. 

Skagit Transit will be supporting evacuation efforts today and is asking all riders to avoid non-essential travel at this time. Paratransit service will not be operating in the east county area due to flooding. That includes east of Fruitdale in Sedro-Woolley, through Lyman, Hamilton and into Concrete, the transit agency posted on Facebook at 9:33 a.m.

Routes 70X and 717 are canceled due to flooding on Highway 20 in the Lyman, Hamilton and Concrete areas. The cancellation could be extended through Friday or Saturday, depending on flooding and road conditions.

Due to roadway flooding in Anacortes, Route 410 is missing three stops on Q Avenue between 11th Street and 17th Street.

“If you are a paratransit client, Skagit Transit may be contacting you to arrange a ride home or notify you of the cancellation of your rides,” the agency wrote on Facebook. “Skagit Transit is scheduling only essential rides at this time, but no rides east of Sedro-Woolley will be scheduled until further notice.”
