Chelsea 6-0 Roma, Women’s Champions League: Post-match reaction

After their first ever defeat of the season, you would expect Chelsea Women to come all guns blazing into a match like today’s. But they didn’t really need it.

Soon they were dominating possession and taking chances at goal, with Roma rarely ever threatening Livia Peng’s dominion. No wonder what should have happened against Everton last weekend — a barrage of chances generating a lot of goals — got us exactly what was expected.

An own goal from Valentina Bergamaschi started things out. That was followed by Wieke Kaptein and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scores, to wrap up a 3-0 lead in the first half.

Things were still heated in the second half, with Sjoeke Nüsken adding a fourth from the spot. The fifth came in via Maika Hamano, with Guro Reiten playing a good pivot in the area to set things up for the Japanese attacker.

There was even time and space for a sixth, as Lucy Bronze wrapped it all up for us on a Nüsken assist.
