No Salah farewell planned & winger suffers major injury blow

Liverpool winger Kaide Gordon has suffered a major injury blow, while Saudi clubs are circling Mo Salah for a January transfer.

Kaide Gordon tears meniscus

Gordon has made eight appearances for the Reds, most recently coming on as a substitute in Liverpool Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace this season.

Injury has been a problem, though, throughout the 21-year-old’s young career, having missed 19 months at one time due to a pelvic problem.

And he has now suffered another long-term injury, announcing on Instagram that he has torn his meniscus.

Gordon wrote: “So disappointed to say I have torn my meniscus and will be out for some time worst news I could have got and this one will hurt for a while but I will be back.”

A number of current and former teammates, including Hugo Ekitike and player-coach Jay Spearing, have offered their support online.

Under-21s coach Rob Page had suggested to This Is Anfield that he could go out on loan in January, but that now seems unlikely as estimations make it four to six months before a player can return to the pitch if they require surgery.

Saudi league CEO confirms Salah interest

Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel says Salah “is welcome in the Saudi League, but it is the clubs that are responsible for negotiating with players.” It’s no secret that PIF-affiliated clubs are interested. “For sure Salah is one of them [a target]” added Mugharbel.

Curtis Jones has insisted that the players “are always” behind Slot and Salah is “as hungry as ever” – let’s patch things up then, eh

Steven Gerrard has told TNT Sports he thinks some of Salah’s comments were “wrong” and captain Virgil van Dijk may need to intervene – the former skipper himself helped sort out problems between Brendan Rodgers and Luis Suarez

More from This Is Anfield

Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk have already played 2,520 minutes for club and country this campaign, with only one player in Europe’s top five leagues featuring more.

Joanna Durkan looks at how Liverpool’s players are facing a serious fitness test this season:

“It is not even mid-December and Liverpool already have four players with over 2,000 minutes under their belt, with Ibrahima Konate (2,122) and Cody Gakpo (2,047) joining Van Dijk and Szoboszlai.

“Slot has leaned on the quartet heavily and his reliance on them has already seen Gakpo ruled out for a number of weeks with an injury, with fears the same could later extend to the others.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

Happy birthday to Jeremie Frimpong who turns 25 years old on December 10!

A millennium baby, Frimpong was born in Amsterdam and moved to Manchester at the age of seven. He was in Man City‘s academy before joining Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen prior to his summer move to Liverpool.

His Anfield career has been majorly hampered by two hamstring injuries so far, making just nine appearances including the Community Shield, but we can’t wait to see what the flying wing-back has to offer when fully fit!
