Notre Dame star guard Markus Burton to undergo surgery after left ankle injury; no timetable for return

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The Notre Dame men’s basketball team just announced a major blow, as star guard Markus Burton will undergo surgery tomorrow after suffering a left ankle injury.
The team says there is currently no timetable for his return.
The Penn High School alum went down a little over halfway through the first half during Notre Dame’s win at TCU this past Friday, landing awkwardly with his left foot while scoring a basket.
It’s unfortunate news for the Irish, who are losing one of their star players for extended time. According to our reporting partners at the South Bend Tribune, Burton leads the Irish in scoring (18.5 ppg), assists (3.7), steals (16) and minutes (30.1).
Notre Dame is 7-3 on the season and is coming off two big wins last week over Missouri and TCU. The Fighting Irish will host Idaho tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
