Series of Alberta Clippers to bring snow and cold to Greater Akron

In preparation for winter driving conditions, Ohio Turnpike preps its snowplows for the season to help keep drivers safe.

  • A series of Alberta Clipper storm systems will bring wintry weather to the Greater Akron area.
  • Snow showers are expected Saturday with little accumulation, followed by up to an inch of snow on Sunday.
  • A stronger storm system is possible Tuesday into Wednesday, potentially bringing a mix of rain, freezing rain and snow.
  • High temperatures will remain in the 30s through the weekend, which is below the typical average for this time of year.

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

The National Weather Service says a chilly and wintry forecast is in store for Greater Akron.

A series of fast-moving Alberta Clippers are expected in the coming days in Greater Akron.

The first one expected on Saturday will bring widespread snow showers with little or no accumulation.

Another storm system expected to arrive on Sunday will bring another bout of widespread snow to the area with an inch or so accumulation expected.

A stronger storm system is possible on Tuesday into Wednesday that could bring everything from rain to freezing rain and even snow depending on the exact track.

High temperatures in the 30s are expected through the weekend. Lows will be in the 20s and even teens.

The weather service says the typical highs this time of the year in Greater Akron are in the 40s.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Southwest wind around 7 mph.

Friday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 19. South wind 6 to 9 mph.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow and freezing rain before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 35. South wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: A chance of snow before 1 p.m., then snow showers likely after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of about an inch possible.

Sunday night: A slight chance of snow showers before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 27.

Monday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13.

Tuesday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday night: A chance of snow before 1 a.m., then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday: Rain and snow. High near 39. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Wednesday night: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 23. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Thursday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
