‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign starts Wednesday

PORTLAND (WGME) — The annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign started Wednesday.

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety is partnering with law enforcement statewide to deter impaired driving.

You might notice the increased enforcement effort statewide aimed at keeping impaired drivers off the road.

Highway Safety Coordinator John Roma says if you plan on drinking at a holiday gathering, be sure to have a safe way to get home.

“There’s nothing wrong with going out and having a good time at your holiday parties, but just plan ahead and make arrangements for a sober driver, and if you feel different, you drive different,” Roma said.

Officials want you to call 911 immediately if you suspect a driver is impaired.

The campaign runs through January 1.
