San Antonio Spurs Top 3 Trade Targets

The San Antonio Spurs have graduated to true contending status this season, jockeying for position at the top end of the Western Conference (Non-OKC Division). Only one game separates the Spurs, LA Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and Houston Rockets, all vying for a top-4 seed and home court advantage after the 21-1 Thunder.

The Spurs should be ready to go ‘all-in’ and elevate themselves above the rest, and according to Dan Favale of Bleacher Report, they should be focused on trying to target one of these stars:

2. Jaren Jackson Jr.
3. Trey Murphy III

Giannis, of course, is a no-brainer. Imagine the pairing of Victor Wembanyama and the Greek Freak. It would be “hell-on-Earth” for the rest of the league, says Favale. And we tend to agree. The NBA should push for this as well, as it could also lead to a huge boost in League Pass sales: Every game would be must-watch TV for every NBA fan.

On the defensive end, the Spurs would be untouchable, and on the offensive end of the floor, the possibilities are endless. Yes, they’d have to part with one of their young backcourt phenoms, either reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle or Dylan Harper, to get the Bucks to bite, writes Favale. But for the sake of the entire basketball world, it would be well worth it.

Jackson Jr. might be almost as tough to pry loose from Memphis, but who knows, if the Ja Morant Drama leads to him being dealt, could a complete Grizzlies reset be next, making JJJ available? Favale calls him ” a comparably intuitive frontcourt fit alongside Wemby,” at both ends of the floor.

The Pels are another team that could look to blow things up in the midst of a disastrous season, leaving Murphy III as a potential trade target. Averaging 20+ ppg for the second straight season, his shot-making, writes Favale, “would turn all the dials on San Antonio’s offense up to 11.”
