This Morning star quits after working with Ben Shephard for 20 years

ITV presenter Ben Shephard said goodbye to his colleague in an emotional farewell. The host was working alongside Cat Deeley as they were getting involved with Sara Davies’ craft activities for the Christmas season. During the segment on This Morning, Ben appeared to make a crafting mistake when he didn’t realise that Christmas paper trees need to be sealed with glue. Ben then commented, chuckling, “Darren’s on camera four, it’s Darren’s last week with me.” To which Cat replied, “Aw!”

Ben then continued: “Darren and I have worked together since the early 2000s, and he’s just watched me there, just in fits of hysterics, because you knew this was going to happen, didn’t you, Darren?” The camera then cuts to Darren, who appeared to be amused.

Earlier this year, Ben Shephard joked that he looked “like Frank Butcher” before embarking on his fitness journey.

The 50-year-old quipped that he looked like the iconic EastEnders character, played by Mike Reid, before he made a concerted effort to get in tip-top shape.

Ben told Men’s Health magazine earlier this year: “I looked a bit more like Frank Butcher than I thought I should have at that stage of life.

“No one said anything at the time – it was way before social media. But I knew it was a moment to catch myself. I had to get back on it.”

Ben celebrated his 50th birthday in December last year, and he previously said he’s conscious of where he’s at in his life.

He shared: “I’m much more conscious of the fact that I’ve probably got less time ahead of me than I have behind me – that’s the reality of it.

“I was working with Alison Hammond last week and when she turned 50, someone said to her, ‘Welcome to the fifth floor.’ That felt like a lovely way of describing it – you’re still looking up to those other floors, but looking down as well.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITVX.
