“Varun Chakaravarthy is the real MVP of T20s” – Fans hail mystery spinner’s brilliant spell in IND vs SA 2025 2nd T20I

Team India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy delivered a brilliant spell in the second T20I against South Africa in Mullanpur on Thursday, December 11. The mystery bowler finished with impressive figures of 2-29 in the high-scoring affair as the rest of the bowling unit largely struggled to contain the explosive batting unit.

Brought into attack in the powerplay itself, Chakaravarthy struck off his very first ball by castling opening batter Reeza Hendricks. After a successful first spell, he was brought back into the attack in the 12th over, where he was taken down by Aiden Markram for successive sixes. However, he managed to have the final laugh as he dismissed the batter with a fiery send-off as well.

His last over began with a bizarre run out of Quinton de Kock, but more importantly, he was able to put pressure on the new batters. He conceded only four runs off the last five balls of his spell.

Fans hailed Varun Chakaravarthy for his impact and control despite bowling with dew, and the majority of the other bowlers struggled in the same conditions. Here are some of the reactions right here:

Varun Chakravarthy is the real MVP of T20s. The same player people once mocked as ‘Gambhir quota’ is now winning matches with pure skill. Time proves everything.

Varun bowls like someone who knows he’s not here to impress — he’s here to disrupt. And disruption is always more memorable than perfection. Varun Chakravarthy

My opinion :— – Varun Chakravarthy is better bowler than jasprit bumrah in T20 !!

Varun Chakravarthy has just bowled a matchwinning spell here. #INDvSA

Varun Chakravarthy is too good. 5-6 years in IPL and International cricket, still difficult to pick. 👏 #INDvSA

Varun Chakaravarthy the pick of the bowlers as India concede 213-4 in IND vs SA 2025 2nd T20I

The mystery spinner ended up being the best bowler on show, as no other bowler boasted an economy below eight runs per over. However, the Proteas made the most of the pristine batting conditions to redeem their dismal batting performance from the series opener in Cuttack.

India have to complete their highest run chase in T20 cricket to claim a near-unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Their highest successful run chase so far is the 209-run target they chased down against Australia in Vizag in late 2023.
