Ravens to sign DT Travis Jones to 3-year extension

The deal is worth $40.5 million over three years with $25 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Given that Jones is having an excellent season and that he was the Ravens’ biggest extension priority with the uncertainty around Nnamdi Madubuike, this is an excellent deal. So much so that it is not clear why Jones would sign it.
Here’s why, per Zrebiec: Jones was in a similar situation to Rashod Bateman, who did not receive an accrued season in 2023 and would have been a restricted free agent after that season. That would have positioned him for a first-round tender worth just under $7.893 million or a second-round tender at $5.658 million (as projected by OverTheCap).
