Ravens to sign DT Travis Jones to 3-year extension

The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms with defensive tackle Travis Jones on a three-year contract extension, per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. The Ravens have confirmed the deal via a team announcement.

The deal is worth $40.5 million over three years with $25 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Given that Jones is having an excellent season and that he was the Ravens’ biggest extension priority with the uncertainty around Nnamdi Madubuike, this is an excellent deal. So much so that it is not clear why Jones would sign it.

Here’s why, per Zrebiec: Jones was in a similar situation to Rashod Bateman, who did not receive an accrued season in 2023 due to a CBA technicality and would have been a restricted free agent after that season. Rather than hit free agency in 2026, Jones would have been eligible for a first-round tender worth just under $7.893 million or a second-round tender at $5.658 million (as projected by OverTheCap).
